A New Chapter for Leading Woman Films

Leading Woman Films began as my independent film work, sharing social impact stories about women and communities around the world. Through that work, I became interested in the different ways storytelling can have an impact—and in creating more opportunities for women to tell stories from within their own communities.

Leading Woman Films believes gender equity and advancement are informed by identity, history, religion, economics, and lived experience. Women storytellers at the frontlines of communities hold significant narrative power and are best positioned to understand and demonstrate transformation in their own communities. Yet they often face inequitable barriers to funding, production infrastructure, and distribution that can support their voices and expand their reach.

While storytelling from outside a community can raise awareness and bring perspectives to wider audiences, storytelling from within communities has greater potential to create meaningful cultural change on the ground.

With this in mind, Leading Woman Films is entering a new chapter, expanding into a nonprofit organization that will be a larger storytelling home designed to support women filmmakers around the world and the stories they are uniquely positioned to tell.

Through a cohort-based filmmaking program, we will support women filmmakers through funding, executive production, and collaborative development to bring their stories to life, without replacing their creative authority.
